The past few years have brought significant twists and changes, both personally and professionally. It is, in itself, a miracle that someone who has survived an ongoing genocide can still think, write, or reflect like a human being when his humanity has been constantly undermined. But we still do.
I have spent much of the past years moving between different areas of focus: clinical and disaster medicine, research, humanitarian response, and health data management. Some of this journey has been documented in publications, reports, presentations, and the occasional addition to my CV. However, much of it has remained undocumented.
The human stories, conversations, and emotions. Rejected papers, unfinished drafts, and failed projects. Questions I have yet to find answers to. My passions, my dream job in science, and any interesting topic I feel is worth writing about. Opportunities and resources I think are worth sharing with you. Clinical notes and diaries. Useless productivity tips.
Thus, I wanted a place for all of that.
I created this website as a space to write about these things. Not everything here will be of significance or come with a takeaway lesson. Some things will simply matter to me, or occupy enough space in my mind that I feel the need to put them into words. So, consider this an invitation to take a dive into my chaotic brain.
I will also take you on a journey through philosophy, literature, and art. Physics might touch on too. Dark comedy will occasionally find its way into inappropriate settings. Thus, my writing will represent no one but myself.
You might find connections between ideas that do not seem logical. That might simply be how I perceive things, so don't judge.
I am still not sure how all these interests fit together. Perhaps that is part of the reason for starting this website: to make room for the process itself, rather than sharing only the finished work.
The title, Research, Stories and More, is deliberately broad. I do not want this to be just an online portfolio. I want it to become a record of things I have worked on, things I have learned, ideas I am exploring, and experiences that deserve to be thought through and written about. I hope some of these pieces will be useful or interesting enough to justify the time you spend reading them.
This is a beginning, then. I do not have a fixed publishing schedule or a complete map of what will appear here. Actually, I have no idea what to publish.
That seems like a reasonable place to start. It is also a trial run, which means I can always delete the whole thing if I end up not liking it.
Salaaam.
